How your information is used and protected by my campaign.

Your privacy matters, and protecting the personal information you share with my campaign is a responsibility I take personally.
As a health care worker and researcher, I know safeguarding personal information as a professional obligation, and one I value highly. That work comes with clear rules about what you may collect, how it must be protected, and who may see it. Misusing personal information has real consequences for real people. I hold my campaign to the same standard.
As someone asking to represent our community, I also believe it's important to communicate with residents regularly and effectively. That's why my campaign collects your information. My campaign has no paid list and no data operation behind it — what it has is neighbours who got in touch, and my obligation to handle their information properly.
This policy follows British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). It explains what I collect, why I ask for it, and what my campaign will and won't do with it.

This policy applies to northvandrew.ca and to my campaign for City of North Vancouver Council in the October 17, 2026 general local election.
What you give me. When you fill out one of my forms — to stay in touch, request a lawn sign, volunteer, or send a message — I collect the information you enter. Depending on the form, that's your name, email address, phone number, home address, and anything you write in a message or notes field.
Donations. Online contributions are processed by Zeffy, not by my campaign. I receive the contributor details that British Columbia's Local Elections Campaign Financing Act requires every campaign to record and report to Elections BC.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, mine records basic technical information when you visit: your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you looked at, and the site or ad that referred you.
Like most websites, mine collects some non-identifying information through cookies, including third-party cookies.
I use Google Analytics and the Google tag to see how many people visit the site, which pages they read, and where they came from. I use Google Ads conversion tracking to see whether my ads actually led anyone to sign up.
I use the Meta Pixel (Facebook and Instagram) for the same reason, plus one more: it lets my campaign show ads on Facebook and Instagram to people who have visited this site, and find other North Vancouver residents whose profiles resemble my supporters. In advertising terms these are called retargeting and lookalike audiences. It's how a volunteer-run campaign reaches beyond the people who already know my name.
These tools set cookies and send Google and Meta information about your visit to this site. I do not send your name, email address, or phone number to Google or Meta through these tools.
You can opt out. Your browser settings can block or delete cookies. You can also adjust what you're shown at Google Ads Settings, in your Facebook and Instagram ad preferences, or through the Digital Advertising Alliance of Canada at youradchoices.ca. Opting out won't stop you from using this site.

You can unsubscribe from campaign emails at any time using the link in any message, or reply STOP to a text. You can also just email me and ask.
Under PIPA you have the right to ask what personal information I hold about you, to have it corrected if it's wrong, and to withdraw your consent. Email contact@northvandrew.ca and I'll respond within 30 business days.
If you'd like your information deleted, say so and I'll delete it — except for records I'm legally required to keep, like contribution records.
I keep your information for as long as it takes to handle what you contacted me about, and to run this campaign. Financial and contribution records are kept for the period Elections BC requires. After the election, information I no longer need is deleted.
Access to campaign data is limited to the small number of volunteers who need it to do their jobs. The providers I use rely on encrypted connections. That said, no website or database is perfectly secure, and I won't pretend otherwise.
